OOC Note:
The code is strict so we can provide for more plotline in our one-clanned RP (at least until the rebellion happens.)
But this does not mean that everyone should break the code for edgy sake. Half of any characters you have must be clan-loyal/code following.
That said, if you do break the code, remember that the clan has survived for so long and for so well because they are STRICT.
If you don't believe us, scroll below to read the punishments.
X There is nothing beyond Shearwater; we remain in our homeland where it is safe.
X Those who desert the clan and venture past the mountain may be attacked and killed next time they are caught. The disease lingers up the mountains, and the clan will not take any chances.
X There is no StarClan to guide us now. They are silent, and they have forsaken us. Their worship is forbidden. You can be hurt or exiled if you try to follow them.
X We attack and chase away outsiders, kill if necessary. They could cause harm to the safety we have spent moons building.
X If you can avoid starting a fight or killing another cat, then always avoid it. Battle and bloodshed is last resort.
X Return with food or herbs or do not return at all. Everyone here must contribute.
X All apprentices must train for many moons under a mentor, then complete their hunt. If they fall to complete their hunt, they will have their ceremony delayed a moon and may try again.
X All warriors must wear something behind their ear or tucked in their fur to show their place; this includes animal skulls, ribs, feathers, teeth and things of the like, that are obtained from the prey you kill on your hunt as an apprentice.
X Kits will never be killed or brought harm to.
X If kits are born to an outsider (the mother leaves them with us or the father mates with the mother in secret) then they will be given to a foster mother and both parents exiled or if needed, killed.
X Taints in the bloodline will be erased, or not allowed to have kits. We do not want anymore incapacitated cats. This means if you are BORN blind, without a limb, etc you will be forbidden from sharing your taint. This also includes half-bloods (cats born to an outsider). The clan should be pure and strong.
X Kits born with blindness, missing or twisted limbs or tails, etc will have to live their life as nest-maid. Their mother has the option of killing them before they open their eyes, so the kit is not subjected to a life of serving and little freedom.
X Nest-maids, being taints, may not have kits. If they do spread their taint, their kits may be killed.
X The leader must choose two apprentices to train under him or her their first moon into their reign. These apprentices must be between 7-11 moons, and shall train competitively against each other until the former leader must pass on. Once the former leader has passed, the apprentices must battle and see which is strongest- the winner is the new leader, the loser to be a warrior.
X If a leader suspects something may happen to them, and their apprentices are under 18 moons, they must choose an older warrior to be the next leader instead. Leaders cannot be under 18 moons.
X You may do as you please during the day, as long as you return to camp at Red Sky with food or herbs.
X All must be in camp after Red Sky (dusk) and may leave again at Lilac Sky (dawn).
X Never question the code or it's enforcer; the leader.
(If you aren't okay with facing an offense for your character's crime, then DON'T DO THE CRIME! There is no guaranteeing you'll never be caught.)
You may skip a couple offenses if the leader sees fit, but commonly this has been the order.
FIRST OFFENSE...
The leader brings you in front of your clan mates, and strikes you as hard as he or she can across the jaw or cheek. You must then apologize for your crime to your clanmates. The leader will continue striking you until you do.
SECOND OFFENSE...
The leader brings you before your clan and gives you a chance to confess your crimes and ask for forgiveness from your clan. You can get off easy with just a strike across the jaw, however, if the leader and his or her two seconds still see that you need further punishment, one back leg will be snapped. If it doesn't heal correctly, you'll be forced to be a nest maid.
THIRD OFFENSE...
At this point the leader has the option of just exiling you, but if he or she still wants you in their ranks, it is time for a more brutal punishment. This is called "The Blinding."
The two seconds will help keep you still while the leader blinds one eye. You can try to apologize and beg your clan to forgive you of your crimes, but more often than not no mercy is shown, and your second eye will be blinded as well. You'll be forced to be a nest maid if you become fully blind.
FOURTH OFFENSE...
The clan will have a vote. The leader will either execute you, or banish you.
If you're executed, the leader will do it as quickly as possible before the clan. If you're banished, the leader will give you from morning until sunset to run and never return. If you are found anytime after sunset, the clan may attack and kill you.
Every clan mate is allowed to give some last words before they are executed, this is code. But hopefully it doesn't come to this.
